Our vision is a world where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Our mission is to empower people to lead their families and communities out of poverty.
emerge poverty free is an international development charity working in partnership with local organisations in east Africa to address the basic needs for people living in poverty by providing the skills, resources and knowledge for people to overcome poverty with dignity.
In 2016-17, emerge poverty free delivered empowering, life-changing projects in 6 countries in Africa (Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda) and with 11 local partners which reached 113,855 people.
At the heart of our work is our commitment to helping some of the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in rural east Africa, empowering them to become self-reliant and independent from aid. We support vulnerable communities by improving food security, establishing sustainable livelihoods, promoting reproductive health and investing in clean water and sanitation in schools.
emerge poverty free’s approach of providing a hand-up rather than a hand-out means our projects impact the whole family, ensuring their children are safe, healthy and educated. Our work is led by the needs of the communities, and shaped by our local partners’ expert knowledge. This approach means our interventions are culturally sensitive, adaptive and are a catalyst for sustainable solutions to the problems that cause or perpetuate poverty.
