emerge poverty free funds the pig breeding programme helping vulnerable families to generate an income and improve livelihoods in a poverty stricken community.
Initially the programme is helping 20 women, each representing a different at-risk household. These women are mothers of street children, either widows or those affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. In each case the women receive training, veterinary support and a pregnant pig. Within no time at all, with care and hard work, they have baby pigs to sell in the market and a regular income.
