emerge poverty free and partner Ground-Water Abstraction Kenya Outreach (GWAKO) are working to bring clean water to Arid Zone Primary School in the Turkana County of Kenya’s Rift Valley.
Drought has badly affected the region threatening the livelihood of its pastoral communities. Turkana suffers from the worst access to clean water in the country with girls and women waking at 4am to go collect water from uncontaminated sources.
We are providing access to safe drinking water for both the school children and the surrounding villages within the rural Turkana County. By establishing a water users committee fourteen people will be trained to maintain the water borehole and it will be kept operational. We expect this project to dramatically increase school attendance and reduce water borne diseases so that children are able to stay healthy and in school.
