Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) offer an efficient method of savings for the rural poor and encourage the practice of long-term saving. Over 90% of groups continue to operate more than five years after receiving training.
emerge poverty free is partnering with Strive Foundation Rwanda (SFR) to educate and train women living in the rural outskirts of Kigali, Rwanda, on the principles of VSLAs and their application. We are excited to develop this self-managed, self-capitalised, and self-replicating method of micro-finance to vulnerable women in these communities.
Through this partnership, emerge poverty free and SFR will also organise entrepreneur clubs for women. They will be encouraged to expand their entrepreneurial skills and consider starting small enterprises. Through training about smart saving practices and the effective use of household incomes, these women will serve as role models in their community. This is a significant step to alleviating poverty and fostering the economic empowerment of women in Kigali.
