Project Gitega Street Children

Burundi

emerge poverty free is working together with our partner African Revival Ministries (ARM) to provide a safe home, food and education for the street children of Gitega.

The project started as a pilot in 2011 for 20 boys. Now it has been expanded to include more children and a special programme for street girls.

emerge poverty free currently sponsors the shelter, medical care, psycho-social work and school fees for 40 children.

Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to construct the first purpose made house in 2012 which is a home for 20 boys. In June 2014 we completed the construction of the girls' house. It was ready in time for 20 girls to join, settle-in and start school in September 2014.
