In Eastern Equitoria State in the South of Sudan 86% of the population depend on crop farming. emerge poverty free funded the establishment of an agricultural demonstration farm in the village of Imilai, Katire region with support from our local partner ANCC.
The farm has grown and expanded to include vegetables of all kinds, fruit and citrus trees, even many beehives. Our agronomist also visits the local households and trains people to use modern farming techniques. After we purchased a grinding mill for the local women’s group things really took off. Now they manage the storage of grain, transport of crops to market and sale of produce as a cooperative.
The storehouse is keeping the seeds safe from pests and extreme weather. It also stores the flour until it is sold at the market when the price is right.
Children used to spend a lot of time manually grinding the corn often missing out on school as a result. The new grinding mill has been hugely beneficial to the families.
